The 850nm lithium niobate (LiNbO₃) high-intensity modulator uses a proton exchange process to fabricate a Mach-Zehnder type optical waveguide. The input/output devices are precisely obliquely coupled to the waveguide, and the intensity modulation of the optical signal is achieved by utilizing the electro-optic effect of lithium niobate material.
